Chalkboard Stocking Wall Hanger

We all know the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" that tells us to hang our stockings by the chimney with care for Santa.  But what if you don't have a chimney?!  Where do you hang your stockings with care?!  Before you have a Christmas melt down, you can easily create a stocking wall hanger to hang your stockings on.  By using a chalkboard, you can personalize the message from year to year, write names above specific stockings, and even leave it up year round if you want to.  This wall hanger allows you to turn your stockings into a work of art and avoid a potential fire hazard.  Pretty soon, even your friends with chimneys will be asking you how to make this chalkboard stocking wall hanger.

Materials: Chalkboard*, Drawer Pull Knobs (number depends on how many stocking you have to hang), Drill, Hanging materials, chalk

*If you cannot find the right size chalkboard already made, most home improvement stores sell chalkboard material ready to be cut to the size you want.

1.  Measure and mark where you want the stockings to hang.  I placed mine in the middle of the chalkboard.

2.  Using a drill, drill holes in the marked locations from step 1.  I used a 1/8" drill bit and this should work for most standard drawer pull screws.

3.  Screw your screws through the holes you made in the previous step.

4.  Screw your knobs onto the screws.  If the screws are too long, you can always use spacers to make sure everything fits tightly.  I recommend placing spacers in the front.  This will allow your chalkboard to still lay flat against the wall, and the knob will hide the spacer in the front.

5.  Use chalk to personalize your chalkboard.

6.  Mount your chalkboard to the wall using your preferred method.

7.  Hang your stockings with care and wait for St. Nick to be there!

Special thanks to my Dad for letting me borrow his drill and use his spacers and to J for drilling the holes so I could take pictures.
