Mason Jar Lamps

Like any good millennial, I love mason jars.  The more vintage they are the happier I am.  The problem with vintage mason jars is that they're more on the expensive side than my limited budget allows. The solution was to make newer (and cheaper) mason jars look vintage.

I got two of the largest mason jar I could find at a flea market, and followed Six Sisters' Stuff: DIY Stained Mason Jars Tutorial.  It is an excellent tutorial!  Since I was doing two large mason jars, I quadrupled their measurements ,and mine ended up needing a little longer in the oven.  I wanted the color to be faint to make it look as vintage as possible.  Here's how one turned out:

Once I had the mason jars tinted, making them into lamps was incredibly easy.  I simply screwed on one of the lids from Mason Jar Lamp Kit converts a Standard Mason Jar Into an Instant Lamp (Pkg. Of 3)  There's lot of kits out there; I chose this one because I had plans to make three lamps.

The only downside to this kit is that there is no way to attach a lamp harp,
so you are limited in your lampshade choices.

Then, I added Cork Lampshade to keep with the vintage feel and because it matched by room decor.

All that is left is to add a light bulb and plug in.  They are the perfect "vintage" lamps for anyone on a budget.

  1. Wow! These look so cool!! Do you think it would be possible to add things into the jars if you wanted to put keepsakes inside?

    1. That's a great idea. You would just add your item(s) before putting the lamp kit on. Make sure the tinting is completely dry before you add anything because other wise it will stick.
